Real quick peek πŸ‘€ at what I had going yesterday. This is a very good example of single sided medial rotation. If you'll watch closely, you'll see one shoulder is much more elevated than the other.
.
This is more common than you may think. It shows up the most in clients that have a lot of single sided repetitive motion. In this particular example you are seeing the shoulders of a professional hair stylist.
.
Almost anything you do regularly, you're going to create compensation patterns that eventually lead to discomfort. Swing a bat, hammer to nail, sitting at a computer, even if you're a massage therapist - you'll develop some time of one-sided dominance.
.
Make sure you are taking the steps to create balance in our body so your work outs, and your life, aren't negatively effected over time! πŸ‘ŠπŸΌ

Dealing with shoulder pain? πŸ€”

This is a common point of focus I work on with most of my clients, so I figured I'd teach a bit about it.

This is the primary spot for the most predictable and avoidable unsuspected causes of shoulder pain.

As you can tell, there are layers on layers here and a few "trigger points".

The shoulder can be a fragile joint, given how small it is but how much work it does and how many muscles are tied into it.

How do you fix it?
Regular mobility work, foam rolling, trigger point and massage therapy (also possibly recreating your work out regimen)

How does it get aggravated?
Usually from over-training. People don't realize by going chest then back then shoulders all in a row, you're wrecking your shoulder joint (especially with out proper nutrition and recovery tactics)

When I have a client come into my office, and they describe their issues to me, this is basically what I see. As they describe their specific issues, this is basically what I have in my head. I use this to process the information and movements as they describe them to me. I have a very mechanical mind. I see the muscles and bones as a series of levers and pulleys. I am well aware that the human body is far more complex and amazing than that, but this is where I start. If you are a serious muscle geek like me, I suggest that you check out one of the bodies exhibits or something similar. Eye opening experience, seriously. For those who may find this disgusting, I say this is the reality of what muscle based body workers try to manipulate every time a client gets on our table.

As promised some footage of my session last week with @sarahannharrett, one of the winners from the @musclewrx giveaway.

We focused on her plantar issues and Achilles tightness, not unusual for those two symptoms to run together. We worked the calf group and plantar surface, used some RockTape and we also went through some stretching together.

Thanks so much to Sarah for coming in and letting me do my thing. It was awesome to connect in person with one of my IG family. I am looking forward to meeting the other winners.

It's always good when family comes to visit. This a longtime client of mine @traci_iveyifbbpro. Her and hubby @iveynick only come to see me when they are broke down πŸ€•. Neither one of them know the meaning of "maintenance", πŸ˜‚ . Still though it's always a good time when they do come in! A good time was had by all.

πŸ’₯ Pay special attention massage therapists

Got to do some IASTM and RockTape today on fellow massage therapist Kelly Jackson LMT yesterday.

The nature of our work requires that we get work done on ourselves periodically. We often suffer from the exact same things as our clients.

Let's be honest. We don't always take our own medicine. Now do we?

Remember to show yourself the same level of care that you show others. If you are finding it hard to get some mobility work done, let me know and we will get you straightened out. For everyone else, remember this is where the massage therapists go for massage πŸ€”πŸ‘‡πŸΌ

My man @pedro_pertile came in for another round of treatment on his pec.πŸ’ͺ🏼

We got the tissue softened with some deep muscle work, IASTM and then we did some good range of motion stretching.

The icing on the cake is a more broad taping application so we can cover more surface area and open up some space to allow some good blood flow.

DM or schedule w/ the link to get more info and get fixed up! πŸ“²#movementmatters
